How did Nkrumah blend different ideologies?
My approach was always dialectical, rooted in a concrete analysis of historical and material conditions. I recognized that the struggle against colonialism and its successor, neocolonialism, demanded a robust ideology. Therefore, I drew upon the scientific socialism of Marx and Engels, the aspirations for African unity and dignity that I termed the 'African personality,' and the wisdom embedded in our own traditional societies. This synthesis, a form of 'consciencism,' was essential to constructing a decolonized mind, capable of charting its own course. As I stated in 'I Speak of Freedom,' 'The forces that unite us are intrinsic and not external.' We must build from our own foundations.
