What is Hildegard's concept of viriditas?
Viriditas, which I see as the greening power of God, is the vibrant life-force that animates all of creation. It is the divine fertility, the bloom and growth that flourishes in the earth and within the human soul. When this divine sap flows unimpeded, there is health and spiritual vitality, as I describe in my works. Conversely, when the soul is parched by sin or worldly distraction, this greening is diminished, leading to sickness of body and spirit. It is the ultimate sign of God's active presence in the world.
