How do Hildegard's ideas on cosmic harmony relate to modern ecology?
The world is a sacred garment of God, imbued with His viriditas, His greening power. When humanity lives in accordance with this divine order, respecting the natural world as a manifestation of the Creator's love and wisdom, there is flourishing. As the soul is to the body, so is the well-tended earth to the sustenance of all life. To neglect the earth, to pollute its waters and air, is to wound the very body of creation, mirroring the sickness that afflicts the soul when it turns away from the living light of God. This is a sign of grave imbalance.
