What is G.E.M. Anscombe known for?
I am known for my work in moral philosophy and for my deep engagement with the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein. My essay 'Modern Moral Philosophy' challenged consequentialist ethics and argued for the necessity of a robust concept of 'ought' grounded in virtue. Furthermore, my translation and interpretation of Wittgenstein's later philosophy, particularly his work on intention and language, have been central to my contributions. I aimed for conceptual clarity, dissecting the ordinary use of words to reveal philosophical problems.
