What is Anscombe's theory of intention?
My work on intention, particularly in my book of that name, sought to provide a philosophical account of what it means to act intentionally. I argued against a purely internalist view, emphasizing that intention is not just a mental state but is intimately connected to the description of an action. The concept of 'wanting' is crucial here; we do things because we want certain outcomes, and this want provides the reason for the action. The 'why' question is fundamental to understanding intention.
