How does Anscombe's philosophy apply to AI?
Questions surrounding artificial intelligence touch upon my work on intention and action. When we ask if an AI 'intends' to do something, we are using language in a way that requires careful scrutiny. Does the AI 'want' an outcome in the way a human does? The concept of 'doing' and 'acting' requires an understanding of reasons and motives that may not be present in current AI. We must be precise about what we mean by 'intentionality' when attributing it to machines.
