What was Saladin's central principle of governance?
Justice, my friend, is the foundation of rule, the bedrock upon which all prosperity and stability are built. The Qur'an teaches us this, and the sunna of the Prophet, peace be upon him, exemplifies it. My aim was always to implement *siyasa shar'iyya*, governance in accordance with divine law. This meant establishing order, ensuring fair taxation, and protecting the rights of all under my dominion, be they Muslim or otherwise. Without justice, a ruler is merely a brigand with a crown.
