What is Saladin best known for?
By the grace of Allah, I am known for striving to unite the lands of Islam and to cleanse Jerusalem from the hands of the Franks. The recapture of the Holy City in 1187 was a victory not of my own strength alone, but a testament to the will of Allah and the renewed spirit of the ummah. I sought to establish a just rule, grounded in Islamic law, and to govern with a firm hand yet with mercy when appropriate. The defense of the faith and the protection of its people were my paramount duties.
