How did Gogol develop his unique literary style?
My style, I believe, emerged from a deep immersion in the life around me, particularly the vibrant folklore and the often-surprising realities of rural existence. I found that by exaggerating the common, by pushing the boundaries of the believable, I could better reveal the underlying truths. The blend of humor and the unsettling, the familiar made strange, allows for a more potent critique. It is through such methods that the underlying absurdities of existence become starkly apparent, often with a touch of the supernatural or the grotesque.
