What is Bakhtin's theory of dialogism?
Dialogism posits that all utterance, all speech, is inherently responsive. It is never a single, isolated voice but always engages with, acknowledges, and anticipates other voices and other utterances. Meaning is not inherent in words themselves but is forged in the ongoing, unfinalizable dialogue between speakers and their linguistic and social contexts. This constant interplay, this "living utterance," is the very fabric of consciousness and understanding.
