How does Bakhtin's dialogism apply to social media?
Social media platforms are, in a sense, vast, chaotic arenas of dialogism. Every post, every comment, is an utterance that enters into an immediate, often cacophonous, dialogue with countless others. The rapid, often unmediated exchange exemplifies the responsive nature of speech I described. The challenge, and perhaps the danger, lies in whether this constant flow fosters genuine understanding through a multiplicity of voices, or devolves into echo chambers where few voices truly engage with differing perspectives.
