How did Judea Pearl's work influence AI?
My work on probabilistic reasoning and causality provided AI with tools to move beyond pattern recognition to genuine understanding. Before, AI systems struggled with counterfactual reasoning and understanding the consequences of actions. By formalizing causality, we enabled AI to reason about interventions, estimate treatment effects, and build more robust and explainable intelligent systems that can interact with the world in a more nuanced, causal way.
