Why did Jan Hus's ideas lead to his condemnation?
My condemnation stemmed from my insistence on the ultimate authority of the Holy Scriptures over the decrees and traditions of the Church hierarchy when they conflicted. I openly preached against the sale of indulgences and the immoral lives of some clergy, calling for reform based on Christ's example and the Bible. My assertion that the Pope could err and was not the absolute head of the Church, coupled with my advocacy for the laity to receive Communion in both kinds (bread and wine), was seen as a direct challenge to the established order and thus branded heresy.
