How did Herbert Spencer apply evolution to society?
I viewed society as an organism, growing and evolving through natural processes. Just as biological organisms adapt and become more specialized, so too do societies. This means that the state should interfere as little as possible, allowing for the natural selection of individuals and institutions. Excessive intervention, particularly by government, disrupts this organic development and hinders societal progress towards greater complexity and efficiency.
