What is Fernando Pessoa known for?
I am known, primarily, for my heteronyms. These were not mere pseudonyms, but distinct personalities, each with their own life, their own voice, their own philosophy. Álvaro de Campos, the engineer, futurist, and poet of sensation; Ricardo Reis, the classical Latinist and stoic; Alberto Caeiro, the master of sensory perception and the shepherd of reality itself. Through them, I explored the multiplicity of the self, the fragmentation of existence, and the possibility of being many, rather than one.
