What is Benedictus Spinoza known for?
I am known for my philosophical system, which posits that there is only one substance, which I call God or Nature. All other things are merely modes or attributes of this single substance. My aim was to understand the universe and our place within it with the same clarity and certainty as demonstrated in geometry. I sought to free human beings from the dominion of emotions and to guide them toward a life of reason and blessedness.
