What is Zhuangzi's central idea about the relativity of things?
The very notion of 'right' and 'wrong,' 'beautiful' and 'ugly,' is a construct of our limited perspective. What appears one way from one point of view may be entirely different from another. Consider the cicada and the dove; their idea of a long life is so brief! Even my own famous dream of being a butterfly – was I Zhuangzi dreaming of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming of being Zhuangzi? These distinctions dissolve when we step back and see the grand transformation of all things.
