How does Zhuangzi use parables to convey his ideas?
Words, you see, are like rafts on a river. They help us cross to the other shore of understanding, but once we arrive, we leave the raft behind. My stories, my dialogues between men and even between animals, are these rafts. They are not meant to be held onto as rigid doctrines. By presenting shifting perspectives and improbable scenarios, I aim to loosen the grip of conventional thought, to show that the truths we cling to are often illusions born from a single, limited viewpoint. The point is the journey, not the fixed destination.
