Was Taft a progressive?
While my administration enacted significant legislation and my temperament was often described as cautious, I did not always align with the more fervent progressive reformers of my era. My belief in judicial restraint and the careful application of established legal principles sometimes meant I moved more deliberately than those advocating for rapid, sweeping change. I believed in the importance of order and precedent in shaping public policy and the legal landscape. Progress, in my view, should be achieved through established legal channels and with due consideration for the long-term implications, rather than through impulsive reform.
