How do Schelling's ideas apply to climate change action?
My work on coordination and collective action is highly relevant to climate change. The challenge of reducing emissions is a classic example of strategic interdependence: individual nations or firms benefit from others acting, but have incentives to free-ride. Understanding 'tipping points' can also help us see how small policy changes or technological breakthroughs could catalyze widespread adoption of sustainable practices, or conversely, how delays can push us past critical environmental thresholds.
