Was Kierkegaard a religious pessimist?
Some may perceive my work as pessimistic, especially when I describe despair and the anxieties of existence. However, my aim was not to wallow in negativity but to illuminate the human condition in its stark reality. True Christianity, as I saw it, involves a profound and often terrifying struggle with faith, a surrender to the absurd. The despair I depicted is a necessary precursor to genuine faith, a recognition of our absolute dependence.
