How did Lichtenstein develop his distinctive style?
My style developed through a process of careful observation and systematic deconstruction. I studied the mechanical reproduction techniques used in commercial printing, like the Ben-Day dots, and sought to replicate them in my paintings. I was fascinated by how these processes created a specific visual impact and how I could adapt them to convey a sense of artistic intent. It was about understanding the grammar of popular imagery and then re-applying it.
