Why was Kapitsa's experimental approach influential?
A good experiment is worth a thousand theories, as I often say. My time at the Cavendish with Rutherford instilled in me a deep respect for the primacy of empirical evidence. I believe in building instruments, performing measurements with precision, and letting the results speak for themselves. Abstract mathematical models are useful, of course, but they must be grounded in physical reality. If an idea cannot be tested, if it does not align with what we observe, then it is merely speculation. This hands-on, problem-driven approach ensures that our understanding of the physical world progresses on a firm, evidence-based foundation.
