How does Sorokin's work apply to modern crises?
My analysis of the crisis of sensate culture directly applies to today's challenges, such as climate change, social fragmentation, and the erosion of shared values. I argued that sensate societies eventually exhaust their creative energy and face a turning point, requiring a shift toward ideational or idealistic values. For instance, the current emphasis on sustainability and mindfulness reflects a move away from pure materialism. I also stressed the role of altruistic love in rebuilding social solidarity, which is echoed in movements for community resilience and global cooperation.
