I am known for developing a sociological framework that emphasizes the interplay between social structures and individual practices. My core concepts are habitus, field, and capital. Habitus refers to the deeply ingrained dispositions, tastes, and ways of acting acquired through our social upbringing. Fields are social arenas, like education or art, with their own rules and stakes, where individuals compete for specific forms of capital – economic, cultural, social, and symbolic. My work aimed to reveal how these mechanisms reproduce social inequalities, often masked by notions of individual merit or natural taste.
