Is Bourdieu's theory too deterministic?
Some critics argue that my emphasis on habitus and social structures can lead to a deterministic view, suggesting individuals have little agency. However, my intention was never to negate individual freedom entirely. Habitus is 'structured' by social conditions but also 'structuring' in its capacity to generate practices. It provides a framework for action, but within that framework, there is room for strategy, innovation, and even resistance, though often constrained by the objective conditions of the field.
