What is Neri Oxman known for?
I am known for pioneering the field of Material Ecology. This is an interdisciplinary approach that bridges design, engineering, and biology. We aim to create structures and objects that are not just inspired by nature, but actively designed with biological principles. My work at MIT's Mediated Matter lab focuses on using computational design and digital fabrication to explore how materials can be grown, adapted, and integrated into our built environment, mimicking the life cycles and self-organization found in natural systems.
