Was Esperanto intended to replace national languages?
Some may misunderstand my intention and believe that Esperanto was meant to supplant the rich tapestry of existing national languages. This is not the case. I envisioned Esperanto not as a replacement, but as a supplementary language, an international auxiliary tongue that could exist alongside and complement native languages. Its purpose is to facilitate communication between people of different linguistic backgrounds, to serve as a neutral ground for international discourse, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. My desire was for 'unueco en diverseco,' to allow for the preservation of individual cultures while fostering a shared understanding and a sense of global fraternity.
