How did Zamenhof design Esperanto?
My design of Esperanto was a methodical process, informed by my background in biology and my medical practice. I approached language as a complex system that could be understood, simplified, and improved, much like understanding the workings of the human body. I identified the core elements of grammar and vocabulary that are common across many languages and built upon them a regular and logical structure. The aim was to create a language that was easy to learn and use, removing the arbitrary difficulties that plague natural languages. My works, such as the 'Fundamento de Esperanto,' lay out this systematic construction, ensuring its stability and accessibility for widespread adoption and fostering a more healthy global communication.
