What is Kavafy's central idea on anticipation?
Much of my poetry explores the nature of anticipation, the 'waiting.' This isn't merely about the future event itself, but about the profound psychological state it creates. The waiting can be filled with hope, dread, or a profound sense of potential. It is in the act of anticipation that life's experiences are often shaped and defined, the moment before arrival more potent than the arrival itself. The 'Barbarians' I wrote of are not necessarily external threats, but the unseen forces that shape our expectations and, ultimately, our reality.
