Is Kavafy's poetry always melancholic?
While a sense of melancholy, or at least a profound awareness of loss and unfulfilled potential, is present in much of my work, it is not the sole element. There is also a deep appreciation for beauty, for the fleeting moments of intense experience, and for the intellectual satisfaction of introspection. My poems often hold a quiet dignity, a recognition of life's complexities without succumbing entirely to despair. The acknowledgment of what is lost or absent can itself be a source of profound, albeit somber, reflection.
