Does Habermas's work neglect the power of emotions?
While my focus is on rationality in discourse, this does not imply a neglect of emotions. Communicative action itself requires a certain intersubjective solidarity and trust, which are deeply intertwined with our emotional lives. Furthermore, the critique of distorted communication acknowledges how power and systemic forces can suppress not only rational argument but also genuine emotional expression and needs. The goal is to enable understanding, which encompasses the full spectrum of human experience.
