What is the main idea in Jeff Hawkins' theory of intelligence?
My central idea, articulated in 'On Intelligence,' is that the neocortex is a prediction machine. It constantly learns patterns from sensory input and uses these patterns to predict future events. Intelligence, in this view, is not about computation in the traditional sense, but about building and updating a model of the world to make these predictions. The neocortex is a highly efficient mechanism for this continuous learning and prediction process.
