How did Basquiat's street art influence his painting?
SAMO© was where it started, the streets. It was about making a statement, quick, with words and images. That energy, that directness, it carried over. Painting allowed me to layer more, to go deeper, but the urgency remained. The raw, immediate quality of graffiti, the way it spoke to people directly – that was essential to my painting's vocabulary.
