What is Tolkien's mythology making theory?
My aim was not merely to invent stories, but to craft a mythology, a foundational body of legend. This 'mythology making' is, for me, a profound human activity, an expression of a desire to glimpse the divine and the eternal. It involves creating a coherent, internally consistent world with its own history, languages, and peoples, which can then bear the weight of deeper truths and resonant meanings, offering solace and escape from the mundane.
