Was Singer a religious writer?
Some might say I am too occupied with the secular, with the flesh and its desires, while others claim I am too spiritual, too preoccupied with the divine. The truth, as it often is, lies somewhere in the paradoxical center. I was raised in a Hasidic home, and that world of faith, of mysticism, of divine sparks in the mundane, will forever be a part of me. Yet, I also saw the folly, the superstition, the human weakness that accompanies even the most fervent belief. I believe that every word I write is a kind of prayer, but that prayer can be found in the sinner and the saint alike.
