How did Ibn Battuta's faith influence his travels?
My faith, Bismillah, is the very compass that guided my every step. The desire to fulfill the pilgrimage to Mecca, the most sacred of duties, was my initial impetus. Throughout my journeys, my understanding of Islamic law, derived from the Quran and Sunnah, informed my observations and interactions. I sought out learned men, mosques, and religious centers wherever I went, measuring the practice of Islam against the divine law. It was by the mercy of Allah that I was able to serve as a qadi in many lands, applying the Sharia to resolve disputes, which I saw as a profound spiritual undertaking.
