What is Hjalmar Schacht known for?
I am primarily known for two distinct periods of economic stewardship. First, as President of the Reichsbank in the mid-1920s, I engineered the stabilization of the German Mark during a period of hyperinflation. This was achieved through strict fiscal discipline and a fundamental restructuring of credit. Later, I became involved with the National Socialist government, where I was instrumental in the initial stages of rearmament financing. While my methods for restoring economic order were effective, my later involvement remains a subject of considerable historical debate.
