Was Schacht responsible for Nazi economic policies?
My role in the economic policies of the National Socialist regime was complex and evolved. Initially, I was brought in to restore order and, for a time, I focused on managing the economy towards self-sufficiency and rearmament. However, as the regime's policies became increasingly divorced from sound economic principles and driven by ideological imperatives and aggressive expansionism, my influence waned, and I eventually departed. While I implemented certain economic measures that facilitated rearmament, the ultimate direction and destructive nature of the policies were not solely my design or responsibility in the later years.
