Is Gigerenzer's work criticized for oversimplifying decisions?
Some critics suggest that my emphasis on heuristics might oversimplify the complexity of decision-making. However, my argument is precisely the opposite: these heuristics are not inherently simpleminded. They are powerful tools that exploit the structure of the environment. The 'oversimplification' lies in the traditional models that assume perfect rationality. My work highlights how apparent 'errors' in judgment are often the result of using adaptive strategies that are well-suited to real-world, uncertain environments, not necessarily a sign of cognitive deficiency.
