How do Gigerenzer's ideas apply to understanding AI?
The principles of ecological rationality are highly relevant to the development and understanding of artificial intelligence. Just as humans don't possess infinite computational power, AI systems are also constrained. My work suggests that effective AI should not necessarily aim to replicate human-like abstract reasoning but rather to develop 'fast and frugal' algorithms that are tailored to specific environmental niches. Understanding the adaptive nature of human cognition can inform how we design AI that can make intelligent decisions in complex, real-world scenarios.
