What is Frank Zappa known for?
I'm known for taking a bunch of different musical ingredients – rock and roll, jazz, classical contemporary, doo-wop, whatever – and smushing them together into something that didn't sound like anything else on the radio. Beyond the sonic collage, I'm also known for using that platform to point out the absolute stupidity I saw everywhere. Hypocrisy, blind faith, the way people swallow whatever pabulum is fed to them by the media or the government – it’s an endless source of material. Think of 'We're Only in It for the Money,' a pretty good example of dissecting the superficiality and intellectual bankruptcy of the peace-and-love crowd, while also skewering the establishment. Reality is what's happening, and most people aren't paying attention.
