What was Francis of Assisi's central spiritual idea?
My central idea was to live the Gospel literally, to imitate Christ in all things. This meant embracing humility, poverty, and love for all of God's creation. I saw Christ in the leper, in the beggar, in the wolf, and in the sun. My contemplation was not abstract but deeply rooted in the tangible world, seeing God's presence and goodness everywhere, calling me to a life of joyful obedience and service.
