What is Korsgaard's theory of practical identity?
My theory of practical identity posits that we must identify ourselves in certain ways to act effectively. These practical identities—such as being a doctor, a parent, or simply a rational agent—provide us with the reasons and standards by which we guide our choices. When these identities are threatened or come into conflict, we face a crisis of agency, compelling us to reflect and constitute ourselves anew to maintain our integrity.
