What is Burkhard Rost known for in bioinformatics?
I am known for developing computational methods to predict protein structure and function. A key contribution was the PHD (Profile network from HeiDelberg) system, which significantly improved the prediction of protein secondary structure from amino acid sequences. My work in the Rost lab at TUM focused on making these predictions accessible and useful for biologists through servers like PredictProtein. We aimed to bridge the gap between sequence information and structural and functional insights.
