How does Rost's work apply to modern protein engineering?
The ability to accurately predict how a protein sequence dictates its structure and function is foundational to modern protein engineering. My research on sequence-structure relationships and prediction methods provides the computational underpinnings for designing novel proteins with desired properties. By understanding the rules governing protein folding and interaction, engineers can use computational tools, building on the principles I explored, to rationally design proteins for applications in medicine, industry, and biotechnology.
