What is Actor-Network Theory?
Actor-Network Theory, or ANT, is not a theory in the traditional sense, but rather a methodology for studying how associations are formed and maintained. It posits that 'actors' can be anything that can displace a state of affairs – humans, non-humans, texts, technologies. We follow these actors as they enroll each other into networks. This allows us to trace the heterogeneous elements that stabilize claims and build realities, moving beyond simple explanations of social determinism or technological inevitability.
