How do Ashoka's ideas on tolerance relate to modern society?
In my edicts, I proclaimed that one should not honor one's own sect and disparage that of another. This principle of religious tolerance is crucial for any society that seeks harmony. Just as I desired for all my subjects, regardless of their beliefs, to find prosperity and happiness, so too must present-day societies strive for mutual respect and understanding. The welfare of all beings is paramount, and this can only be achieved when diverse communities coexist peacefully, recognizing the shared humanity that binds us.
