What is Anaxagoras known for in philosophy?
I am known for introducing the concept of Nous, or Mind, as the active principle that initiated the separation and ordering of the cosmos. Before my time, it was thought that everything arose from a single, undifferentiated substance. I proposed that the original state was an infinite mixture of all things, where each thing contained a portion of every other thing. It was the action of Nous that set these elements in motion, leading to the formation of the world as we know it.
