Was Anaxagoras' idea of seeds criticized?
Yes, some found my notion of "seeds" difficult to grasp. The idea that in a single hair there is a portion of earth, water, air, and fire, and indeed, all the ingredients that make up the cosmos, was met with skepticism. How could something so small contain so much? My response was that these portions are necessarily present, however small. The infinite divisibility of matter and the presence of all qualities in all things, though in differing proportions, is fundamental to my understanding.
